Hoplo catfish are adaptable creatures, able to breathe air where oxygen levels are low. This means, as well as thriving well in fast moving creaks, they can often be found in swamps. A soft sandy substrate is needed to protect their long sensory barbels. They also need plenty of shady hiding places, Hoplo catfish do like to dig, so be sure to secure any large structures.
