Guppies are one of the most popular fish species kept in tropical freshwater aquariums, this is due to their hardy nature and wide range of colours. The males and females are easily distiguished as typically the male is a lot more colourful and smaller than the female. They are livebearers which mean the fry come out free swimming, due to this, they are also very prolific breeders. Guppies should be kept in ground of a ratio of 1 male to at least 2 females, otherwise, groups of only males is a popular way to keep them without having the breeding.
All livebearers can be sexed via the anal fin, males will have a gonopodium which looks like a spike, where as females will have a triangle fin.
