Bolivian Butterfly Rams are a unique and inquisitive fish. They are best kept on a soft, sandy substrate so they can browse and sift through the sand, coarser options such as gravel or fine pebbled can inhibit feeds or damage gill filaments. They can be a slower feeder and are easily outcompeted with food so keeping this fish in a community aquarium is not best practise, groups of peaceful schooling fish that aren't vigorous feeders is best and may help reduce shyness within the Bolivian Rams.
