Geophagus are generally peaceful and coexist well with other similar-sized, non-aggressive fish. They are named after their intriguing behaviour of sifting through the substrate and will often "redecorate" the aquarium. Due to their sbstrate sifting behaviour the aquarium substrate should be soft and sandy.
